Bangladesh vs West Indies Match Highlights, 3rd ODI: Caribbean ship sank by the Tigers roar

Bangladesh and West Indies met in the third and final ODI of the series on Monday morning, January 25 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. After losing the first two ODIs, the West Indies team came out to play for victory on this day but they had to face a deplorable loss yet again.

West Indies captain Jason Mohammad decided to field after winning the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat.

Bangladesh did not have a good start in batting. In the fifth ball of the first over, opening batsman Liton Das returned to the dressing room after being lbw by Alzarri Joseph. After that, Tamim and Shanto tried to take the helm of the game. But in the ninth over, Shanto went back to the dressing room after being lbw by Myers.

Then Bangladesh came back in the match with the third wicket partnership of 93 runs of Shakib and Tamim. After that Tamim-Sakib went back to the dressing room but based on the devastating innings of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah, Bangladesh threw a huge target of 296 runs to the West Indies and they lost six wickets in 50 overs while batting. Tamim Iqbal (64), Mushfiqur Rahim (64), Mahmudullah (64), and Shakib-al-Hasan (51) were the ones who scored good runs, and Raymon Reifer and Alzarri Joseph took 2 wickets each for West Indies.

The West Indies fell in front of the cannons of the Bangladeshi bowlers while coming to bat for chasing down a huge target. In the second over of the innings, West Indies lost their first wicket and they had only 7 runs on their board then. After that, the Bangladeshi bowlers started picking up wickets at regular intervals. The West Indies were cornered by the Bangladeshi bowlers. As a result, the West Indies lost all their wickets in 44.2 overs and got all out for 177 runs. Rovman Powell was the highest run-scorer for West Indies and Mohammad Saifuddin took 3 wickets for Bangladesh, and Mostafizur Rahman and Mehedi Hasan each took 2 wickets.

The spectators witnessed the batting skill of one of best all-rounders of the world, Shakib Al-Hasan on this day. Shakib had to leave the field due to a sudden injury while bowling.

Being a part of the Super League, now no match is less important than other matches. Tamim Iqbal had a golden opportunity to make a good start to the ODI Super League by winning this three-match ODI series. The Tigers grabbed that opportunity well and after winning three matches, Bangladesh now has 30 points, and is now at the number 2 position of the points list of ODI Super League, crossing over teams like Pakistan and England. Australia tops the list with 40 points. This league will decide who will play in the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India and who will not. Although the start was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ODI Super League started with the match between England and Ireland on July 30.

West Indies could not manage to score even 150 batting first at the first two matches of the 3-match series. Hence, the spectators could not enjoy enough batting those days. But batting first on the final ODI, the Tigers have fulfilled that hope of the viewers by scoring 297 & Tamim’s team has defeated the Caribbeans by 120 runs as expected. This is the first series win for Tamim Iqbal as a regular captain. This was the 8th consecutive win for the Tigers against the Carribeans.
