IPL 2021 schedule announced with none of the team getting home advantage

IPL is returning to India after one season. The people of India are going to get a taste of one of the biggest and best T20 franchise tournaments in the world on the soil of their own country. And there is not much time left for this tournament to get started. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the 14th edition of the IPL will start on the 9th April. The curtain of IPL is going to be raised after only 30 days. The final match of the tournament will take place on May 30.

Due to Covid-19, the last season’s IPL was held in 3 stadiums in the UAE. This time the whole tournament will be held in India. The matches of the IPL 2021 will be played in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bangalore will host 10 matches each out of a total of 56 in the group stage. Meanwhile, Ahmedabad and Delhi will host 8 matches each. The playoffs and final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which is the largest cricket stadium in the world.

The specialty of this edition’s IPL is that no team will play a ‘home’ match. In other words, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders will not be able to play home matches in their respective stadiums even if there will be games in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. In the league stage, each team will play in 4 out of the 6 grounds. There will be 2 matches in a day for 11 times.

This time in the first match of IPL, the battle between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be seen. Defending champions Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians will face Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore.

BCCI president Jay Shah said in a statement, “The fixtures of the tournament have been arranged in such a way that the teams have to travel only three times in the league stage. Through this we are reducing the travel hassle, reducing the risk to the players.” The BCCI further said that even if spectators are not allowed to enter the field at the beginning of the tournament, they will consider whether spectators can be allowed to enter the field in the next stage.
